  • No one hurt in drive-by shooting

    Lancaster police are investigating a brazen daytime drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon at a home less than a block from the police station that endangered patrons at the Dollar General store.
    Lancaster Police Department Chief Scott Grant said the incident happened about 5:30 p.m. when a vehicle traveling south on Hughes Street fired multiple shots at a home on the northwest corner of Hughes and Arch streets.

  • 2 charged, 1 sought in Facebook gun battle

    Two men have been arrested and sheriff’s deputies are looking for a third in connection with shootings at a Lancaster mobile home park Wednesday evening, one of which was captured on video by a witness and posted online.
    Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 130 Melton Park Circle in Lancaster Wednesday about 7 p.m. in regards to a shooting in progress.
    Investigators said the incident began with a fight between women that ended with gunfire that left a 21-year-old Lancaster woman with two shots to the stomach.

  • 2 suspects sought in break-ins

    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a number of vehicle break-ins in the areas off Regency Park and Harrisburg roads over the weekend.
    There were at least two suspects and the possible suspect’s vehicle is a tan-colored Lincoln.
    The sheriff’s office is seeking the public’s help identifying the suspects, including the man in this photo.

  • Hit-and-run now under investigation

    The S.C. Highway Patrol and the Chesterfield County Coroner’s Office are investigating a fatal hit-and-run early Sunday morning.
    The accident happened just north of the town limits about 1 a.m. on S.C. 207, according to the Highway Patrol. Belfred Cruz Mendez Roellana, 45, was walking along the road when he struck but an unknown vehicle. It is not know which direction he was walking.

  • Man charged after store worker accuses him of lewd behavior

    A Lancaster man was arrested at Walmart in Indian Land last week after an employee accused him of committing lewd acts while following women and children around the store.
    Roger Mervin Powell II, 42, of 3671 Lamplight Road, Lancaster, was charged with one count of breach of peace of a high and aggravated nature and banned from the store, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

  • Robber demands exactly $60, pack of cigs

    A convenience store clerk reported to city police that a man robbed her of $60 and a pack of Newport cigarettes early Thursday.
    The lone robber, who was wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts, sped away in a black, 2-door pickup.
    The incident happened just after 2 a.m. Thursday at Citgo Gas Station, 1200 N. Main St., according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.
    The man came in, walked to a cooler, got a beer and walked up to the counter to pay for it.

  • 5 teens charged in church break-in

    Five teens staying at the Lancaster Children’s Home have been charged with breaking into a nearby church, damaging the building and stealing money, Gatorade and candy after slipping away from the home in the middle of the night July 6.
    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report said the three girls and two boys ages 14 to 17 were caught about 2 a.m. inside the office of Hyde Park Baptist Church at 1898 Flat Creek Road.

  • Peeping tom, caught in the act, roars at victim, then runs away

    A Lancaster woman and her children got a rude surprise early July 4 when she caught a man peeping through her bedroom window.
    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report said a deputy responded to the woman’s home in the 1500 block of Fleetwood Drive about 2:29 a.m.
    The 33-year-old mother of two told the deputy she heard a noise outside her window and pulled back the curtains to find a man crouched down below her window. He was touching himself sexually.

  • Motorcyclist hurt in collision with pickup

    A motorcyclist was severely injured Wednesday afternoon when his motorcycle was struck nearly head-on by a pickup truck on Rocky River Road.
    Injured in the accident was 26-year-old Shane Mathias Moseley of Lancaster.
    Emergency crews said Moseley was flown from the nearby Rich Hill fire station to an area hospital. His condition remained unknown as of deadline Thursday.
    The accident happened about 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Rocky River and Daisy Couch roads.

  • Fort Lawn man arrested for felony DUI after crash

    The S.C. Highway Patrol has charged Fred Coulter, 52, of Fort Lawn with felony DUI with great bodily injury, according to jail records at the Chester County Detention Center.
    Troopers say Coulter, the driver of an 1995 SUV, collided with a 2007 Honda motorcycle driven by Jeffery Cox, 27, of Chester about 5:45 p.m. June 23 on Lazy H Road. Cox was injured in the collision.
