The Lancaster County School District is expected to benefit from the $10 billion that Congress approved this week for schools across the nation. The amount the district will see remains to be seen.
South Carolina will get about $143.4 million of the funding from the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, which President Barack Obama signed Tuesday.
The money will allow more than 2,000 teachers in the state to keep their jobs next summer, according to the S.C. Department of Education. The money also may allow districts to hire new staff during the 2010-11 year.
