The University of South Carolina Lancaster kicked off the graduation season for all USC campuses and Lancaster County on Saturday, May 4, with commencement exercises honoring 96 students.

The ceremony in the James Bradley Arts and Sciences Building’s Bundy Auditorium drew a packed house of faculty, friends and family members to honor the graduates on their academic successes.

COLUMBIA – A Lancaster man faces at least 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a gun possession charge Thursday, May 2.

William I. Satterwhite, 52, pleaded guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a violation of the federal Title 18 law, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

Nettles said U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie accepted the plea and will impose a sentence after she has reviewed the pre-sentence report, which will be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.

COLUMBIA – Bobby J. Albert has been promoted to the new Troop 4 commander with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

As commander of Troop 4, Albert will oversee the day-to-day enforcement and administrative operations of Cherokee, Chester, Chesterfield, Fairfield, Lancaster, Union and York counties.

“Capt. Albert is a seasoned trooper who knows this area of the state well,” said Col. Mike Oliver, SCHP commander. 

“He sets an excellent example and is well-respected among the troopers he will lead.”

At least two men, possibly three people, are wanted in connection with an armed robbery at Antioch Grocery on Wednesday, May 8, in which a clerk was injured by a masked gunman. 

Then, a customer, who walked into the store while the crime was in progress, had a gun pointed at him, according to witnesses at the scene.
