  • Man grabs cash, dashes from store

    Deputies are tracking down leads to find a man who grabbed a handful of cash from a convenience store cash register on Thursday night, Feb. 27.

    Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Matt Shaw said the larceny happened at about 10 p.m. when a customer entered North Corner Grocery, at 3647 Charlotte Highway.

    “A guy came in and was going to buy something. When the clerk opened the cash register, he reached right in, grabbed some money and ran out the door,” Shaw said.

  • Newberry tops Indian Land 78-66

    GREENVILLE - The Indian Land High School Warriors fell to Newberry High School 78-66 in the Class AA Upper State basketball title game on Saturday, March 1.

    Darnell Rogers led the Warriors with 27 points, followed by Damien Forman with 17 points.

    IL boys basketball coach Nate Smith said earlier this week that inside play would be a deciding factor in the game and it was.

    Newberry took control of the game in the third period with several key rebounds to build it's lead.

  • Lady Volunteers top Newberry, advance to state title

    GREENVILLE - The Andrew Jackson High School Lady Volunteers topped Newberry High School 62-48 in the Class AA Upper State championship game on Saturday afternoon, March 1, to advance to the state championship.

    Andrew Jackson, 23-3, was led by senior ace Dareisha Sowell, who netted 40 points in the contest. Sowell, an all state pick, was 18 of 20 at the free throw line and scored 30 points in the second half.

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School head football coach David Moore will be among the grid coaching elite at the beach on Dec. 13.

    Moore, the Volunteers’ head coach since the 2010 football season, has been selected as an assistant coach for the North team in the 67th North-South All-Star football game at Myrtle Beach’s Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
