    After 15 years of service with Lancaster County, Planning Director Chris Karres was stunned when he learned of his firing last week.
    Still in shock almost a week later, Karres spoke to The Lancaster News Thursday afternoon about learning the news from County Administrator Steve Willis on June 15.

  • Man posing as newspaper carrier scams TLN subscriber

    The Lancaster News is letting its subscribers know about a recent incident in which a customer was scammed by a man pretending to be a newspaper carrier.
    Angela Vincent, circulation manager for The Lancaster News, told a sheriff’s deputy that one of her subscribers was approached at home June 14 by a man claiming to be the paper carrier.

  • Heath Springs delays vote on smoking ban

    HEATH SPRINGS – Heath Springs town officials will keep an eye on Lancaster County Council's ordinance to restrict smoking in the county.
    County Council is reviewing and debating an ordinance draft that, if adopted, would ban smoking in all public-access buildings.
    It's modeled largely after one in Greenville County, which – like neighboring York County – bans smoking in all public places.

  • Report: Man attacked outside Kershaw home

    A Kershaw resident told deputies he was attacked by a group of men late Monday, June 18, outside his home on Gold Mine Highway.
    The resident said he heard his dog barking shortly before 11:30 p.m. and went outside to check on it. As he walked toward the dog, someone slapped him in the back of the head, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff's Office incident report.

  • Man suffers fatal injuries in single-vehicle accident

    A 58-year-old man died as the result of a single-vehicle accident south of Lancaster Friday night.
    Meanwhile, a 42-year-old Van Wyck woman critically injured in a motorcycle accident June 16 has died.
    S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Billy Elder said the accident Friday night occurred at 8:35 on New Hope Road approximately 5 miles south of Lancaster.
    The man's name was not available as of press time Saturday.

  • Two men arrested in Fort Mill abduction of news carrier

    Two Lancaster men were arrested Thursday, June 21, in connection with the abduction of a newspaper carrier in Fort Mill earlier this week.
    Trumane Tee Daniel, 27, 1164 Chase Madison Drive, and Jeremy Lechloe Thomas, 23, Carolina Court, were each charged with armed robbery, though more charges are expected, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release.

  • New details emerge in murder

    A Lancaster man found murdered in his York Street home Monday evening may have been shot and his home ransacked, according to a Lancaster Police Department media report  released Thursday morning.
    Lancaster police officers found 53-year-old Donald Eustace Morris dead in his home at 307 S. York St. about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

  • Prank becomes assault

    A fast food restaurant employee was choked into unconsciousness at work earlier this month. after another man put him in a headlock.
    Officers responded to the assault at McDonald’s, 316 S.C. 9 Bypass, at 11:30 p.m. June 11, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.

  • Van Wyck woman hurt in bike wreck

    A Van Wyck woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on S.C. 5 (Rock Hill Highway) on Saturday, June 16.
    Jamisala Gray, 42, of the 6400 block of Charlotte Highway, was hurt in the wreck.
    S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Billy Elder said the accident occurred about 4:45 p.m. as Gray rode a 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle west on S.C. 5.
    Elder said as Gray approached the intersection, Jason Graham of Rock Hill, driving east in a four-door Kia, tried to turn left in front of Gray onto Steele Hill Road.
