  • Kiosk makes life easier for doctors

    Waiting time for patients is being reduced, thanks to a technology that’s becoming more and more popular.

    Mackey Family Practice is the second medical practice in Lancaster County to use an electronic kiosk system provided by Clearwave.

    The device allows patients to check in for appointments as soon as they arrive at the office. Personal data is displayed instantly and insurance information is processed within seconds – all helping to reduce the time a patient waits to see the nurse or doctor.

  • 18 finish call center training

    “We were out there in the water ready to drown, and you guys gave us a lifeline.”

    That was a comment made by David Brock, a graduate in the first call center training program offered by York Technical College’s new Lancaster County Customer Service and Technology Center.  

    The program recognized its first graduating class Friday at a ceremony attended by officials from Lancaster County, Lancaster County Economic Development Corp., York Technical College and the Workforce Investment Board.

  • Chamber unveils magazine

    The Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce unveiled its newest business directory magazine Thursday at the Lancaster County Administration Building.

    It features a photo of the Lancaster County Courthouse on the cover and contains information for newcomers to the county, as well as a comprehensive business directory.

    The magazine contains a feature story on efforts to rebuild the courthouse, and there are smaller spotlights on education, health care and recreation in the county.

  • 2 ALDI stores coming

    Two ALDI supermarkets are in development for Lancaster County.

    Katherine Davis, spokeswoman for ALDI, said the discount supermarket chain is moving forward with two new locations in the county, one in Lancaster and the other in Indian Land.

    “I’ve talked with the real estate director for where these stores are located and things are moving ahead,” Davis said.

    The Lancaster store is under construction on 2.5 acres of land at Old Charlotte Highway and North Park Drive.

    Rickey Lackey is thrilled to have a local one-stop shop to take care of his farming and supplies needs.

    The Lancaster County resident said he’s often had to shop online or go out of town to get what he wanted – whether it was tools for a building project or feed for livestock.

  • Filling the treasure chest

    Students with the SWEET PEAS mentoring program recently undertook an initiative that aimed to bring joy to local hospitalized children.

    SWEET PEAS, which consists of area seventh-grade girls, applied for and received a grant from Young People in Charge to buy toys for children admitted to Springs Memorial Hospital.

    Young People in Charge and SWEET PEAS are both part of the Children’s Council, a non-profit organization that provides various programs and services for Lancaster County youth.

    About 20 girls participate in SWEET PEAS.

  • Koss Motorsports to bring car show to July 4 market

    The third Lancaster Street Market of 2009 is slated for July 4 and will include a special attraction.

    Steve Koss of Koss Motorsports will be sponsoring his highly popular car show for visitors to enjoy.

    “We are so excited to have Steve involved again with his great car show. His group joined us for the December street market and they were very popular,” said Carrie Miller, event coordinator for See Lancaster. “We feel this will be well received again during the holiday weekend.”

  • Tractor Supply opening soon

    Lancaster will soon be getting “the stuff it needs out here.”

    Tractor Supply Co., the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the country, is opening its 19th South Carolina store in Lancaster. The chain is known for its slogan, “The stuff you need out here.”

    Work began on the former Sweet Union Furniture store building next to Bi-Lo at 593 S.C. 9 Bypass East on April 20, though signs announcing the chain was moving in have been up for months around the store.

  • Lowe's opens IL store

    INDIAN LAND – After months of construction, the new Lowe’s in Indian Land opened for business last week.

    Located at U.S. 521 and S.C. 160, the store held a “soft” opening May 20, when customers were allowed to shop for the first time.

    The store will celebrate its formal grand opening Thursday, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by an open house.

    Rick Nichols, a manager at the store, said the soft opening attracted some customers who were intrigued by the new store.
