    Beginning March 23, the University of South Carolina Lancaster’s Native American Studies department will host its eighth annual Native American Studies Week.

    Since 2005, USCL has hosted a week of events each spring focused on the rich history and cultural traditions of South Carolina’s indigenous peoples.

    This year’s program focuses on issues surrounding Native Americans and law and justice, and includes lectures by regional and nationally-recognized scholars, screenings of films and exhibits highlighting the topic.

    The National Sleep Foundation began surveying American sleep health and behaviors in 1991.
    NSF releases the poll findings as part of its 16th annual National Sleep Awareness Week campaign, held March 3-10, that culminates with the change to Daylight Saving Time on March 10.

    They were married March 1, 1953 in Rome, Ga.
    The couple has two daughters, Teresa F. Fowlkes and her husband, Dr. Earl Fowlkes, of Toccoa, Ga., and the late Linda Faile Talley; three sons, Steve Faile and his wife, Betty, of Cartersville, Ga., David Faile and his wife, Mary Beth, of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Timothy Faile and his wife, Amber, of Rome; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

    The bride is the daughter of Laramie Thompson and Lovette Chambers, both of Charlotte. She is the granddaughter of Bernice Ford of Charlotte and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Thompson of Huntersville, N.C. She is a 2000 graduate of Independence High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

  • Anna Vanessa Sellers and Christopher Thomas Hicks were married Sept. 29, 2012, by the Rev. Maxie A. Threatt, uncle of the bride, at Plantation Farms in Byron, Ga.
    The bride is the daughter of Mark Sellers of Byron and Alona Sellers of Warner Robins, Ga. She is the granddaughter of Howard and Sybil Threatt Sellers of Lancaster. She is a 2007 graduate of Northside High School in Warner Robins and a 2012 graduate of Valdosta State University with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She works as an educator in Lowndes County, Ga.
