  • Jordan Lee Mauney and the Rev. Dustin Drake Dean were married Feb. 1, 2014, at Temple Baptist Church in Gaffney by the Rev. Court Greene of Shelby.
    The bride is the daughter of Ken and Karen Mauney of Boiling Springs. She is the granddaughter of Kenneth and Becky Hudson of Lancaster and Jack and Betty Mauney of Shelby. She is the great granddaughter of Nadine Ghent and the late Cecil Ghent and the late Henry and Birdie Hudson. She is a graduate of Spartanburg Community College and currently a senior at Liberty University Online Studies.

    He and his staff organize the trips for World War II veterans and volunteers to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., two or three times per year.

  • A few years ago, when I did some frequent work-related traveling between Springs’ Customer Service Center and their New York office, several of those “real city boys” used to chide me about one of my neighborly tendencies.

    For some strange, inexplicable reason, they perceived my inclination of nodding and speaking to people on the street as a “bad habit.”

    Folks in midtown New York City, they said, never make eye contact with total strangers.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Harper Burns celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 10, 2014. Mrs. Burns is the former Brenda Elaine Cauthen.
    They were married on May 10, 1964, at First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
    A 1959 graduate of Lancaster Senior High School, Mr. Burns served in the United States Marine Corps and retired after 34 years of service at Glidden Paint Company in Columbia.
    A 1962 graduate of Heath Springs High School, Mrs. Burns retired as a home health care provider and a certified lay preacher in the United Methodist Church.
