  • Aaron Flynn took his last pain-free steps on a secluded path near Worms, Germany, on the afternoon of Feb. 21, 1945.
    He was a 19-year-old private first class from Lancaster, a machine gunner with the U.S. Army’s 6th Armored Division, 44th Armored Infantry Battalion.
    Flynn had been a late entry into World War II. His enlistment was rejected several times because of bad eyesight. But after his older brother was killed in action on Christmas Eve 1943, Flynn got into the Army.

  • Lancaster County recognized its local Vietnam veterans Saturday on the front lawn of the historic county courthouse with a long overdue “Welcome Home” celebration.
    “Let’s do what should’ve been done 50 years ago,” said Robin Ghent, Lancaster County veterans affairs director. “You did your job, you served with honor, and you did us proud. Welcome home.”
    When they returned home from Southeast Asia in the 1960s and ’70s, veterans were sometimes spit at, cursed out, degraded or ignored for their service.

  • Jack Sr. and Betty Adams celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 12, 2016.

    A dinner was given in their honor by their children, Janet Sanders, Jack Adams Jr. and Brian Adams.

    The couple was married Oct. 12, 1956, in Lancaster.

    In addition to their three children, the couple has two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

    He retired from Morrison Textile Machinery Co.

  • Linsey Kellam and William Harbac were married Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Andrew Jackson State Park in a simple country wedding that consisted of navy blue, peach and white.  

    The bride was given away by her father.

    Maid of honor was the bride’s new sister-in-law,  Michelle Baker.

    Best man was the groom’s best friend, Kenny Harris.

  • Buddy and Donna Faile announce the engagement of their daughter, Bailey Adair Faile, to Joseph Samuel Threatt, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for June 10, 2017, at First Baptist Church.
    Miss Faile is the granddaughter of Williford and Peggy Faile and William and Judy Roberts, all of Lancaster. She is a 2011 graduate of Lancaster High School, and a 2015 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She is a first grade teacher at Harrisburg Elementary School.

  • Shudell and Lillie McGriff of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Teresa Lydell McGriff, to Ricky Alex Harris, both of Columbia.
    An October wedding is planned.
    Miss McGriff is the granddaughter of the late A.B. and Hattie Lathan and Betty W. McGriff and the late Selvin McGriff. She is a graduate of Lancaster High School, and earned an associate degree in health science from South University in Columbia. She is office manager for Children & Adult Dental Group in Columbia.

  • Julie LeAnn Harrell and Jerry Anthony Croxton renewed their wedding vows for their five-year anniversary on June 25, 2016, at The Home Place.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Harrell of Lancaster. She is a 2001 graduate of Buford High School.
    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry N. Croxton of Lancaster. He is a 1984 graduate of Lancaster High School.
    The bride’s parents gave her in marriage.
    The wedding official was Ernest Croxton.
    Maid of honor was Caroline Harrell of Lancaster, daughter of the bride.

  • John and Anne McCulloch of Lancaster will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 14, 2016.
    The couple was married Sept. 14, 1956, in Atlanta, Ga.
    The McCullochs have two children, Becky Taylor and her husband, Darren, of Irmo and Russell McCulloch and his wife, Joni, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Jenna, Michael and Thomas.

  • Robert and Libby Threatt and Jeff and Patti Reynolds announce the engagement of their daughter, Jesse Elizabeth Reynolds, all of Lancaster, to Bradley Knight of Kershaw.
    The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. Nov. 5, 2016, at Harmony Oak Farms.
