  • Mr. and Mrs. William Lester Bowers of Heath Springs announce the engagement of their daughter, Madison Bowers, to Bob Cook, both of Kershaw.
    The wedding is planned for 6:30 p.m. June 20, 2015, in Aiken.
    Miss Bowers is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lee Crenshaw of Heath Springs and the late Mr. and Mrs. Manley Brice Bowers Sr. She is a graduate of the College of Charleston and is a special education teacher with the Lancaster County School District.

  • Tony Plyler of Augusta, Ga., and Ruthie Walters of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Angela Hope Plyler, to Jeffrey Samuel Chandler, both of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 5:30 p.m. Jan. 3, 2015, at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church in Lancaster.
    Miss Plyler is a 1996 graduate of Lancaster High School and received a degree in health science from York Technical College in 2001. She is studying applied science in accounting at York Tech and works in accounting for Innova Disc Golf.

    cording to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a dream is defined as a visionary creation of the imagination. Every person has a different dream or a hope for a miracle to take place. I have a dream that special needs students will not only be accepted, but valued in society.

  • The Christmas spirit will be contagious at two Van Wyck events this weekend.
    Grand marshal Clarence Witherspoon will lead the annual Christmas parade at noon Saturday, Dec. 13, and a candle-lighting worship event will take participants through four churches at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.
    The Van Wyck Community Development Club hosts the two events during the second weekend in December, appealing to those who enjoy holiday tradition and the charm of a small community.

    The bride is a 1973 graduate of Lancaster High School. Sadie McDow stood as her honorary mother.
    The groom is a graduate of Mayo High School and earned a master’s degree from Southern Wesleyan University. Mary Ghee stood as his honorary mother.
    The bride was given in marriage by her son, Baraso Cunningham.
    Matron of honor was Mary Hazel of Lancaster, cousin of the bride.
