    Area junior golfers took center stage at the Lancaster Golf Club on Friday.The LGC capped its annual junior clinic with the age group golf tournament.In the boys and girls 6-7 age group, “T” Sutton finished first and the junior links standout was followed by Jalen Woodard and Christian Carter.Emily Cox, a Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association standout, took top honors in the girls 8-12 girls age group.

  • Dixie Boys junior all-stars finish as state runners-up

    The Lancaster Dixie Boys junior all-stars, age 13, fell short in their shot to capture a state championship.Host Lexington defeated Lancaster 10-0 in five innings to take the 2008 Dixie Boys junior all-stars state crown on Friday night in Lexington.Lexington now moves on to the Dixie Boys junior all-stars’ World Series in Bluffton.“Friday wasn’t our night,” said Lancaster Dixie Boys junior all-star manager Brant Barnes.

  • Sumner running for second term in City Council District 4

    Lancaster City Councilman Bill Sumner said he wants to continue serving the people of the district and the city by running for the District 4 seat again.

    He announced his intentions on Tuesday, two days after Tamara "Missy" Green announced she would be seeking the seat. Sumner is now finishing his first full term on council, after completing the unexpired term of the late Councilman Frank Harris in 2004.

    Sumner said he enjoys the responsibilities of the position and he wants to continue serving during an interesting time for the city.
