  • Opera has come to Indian Land.

    Opera Experience Southeast presented Puccini’s “La Boheme” to a full house Jan. 7 and 8 in the Lake House at Sun City Carolina Lakes.

    Excitement and drama filled the theater from the opening scene to the final curtain. “La Boheme” tells the timeless story of a shy young woman who meets and falls in love with a passionate poet on a cold evening in Paris. Love, jealousy, forgiveness – all the necessary ingredients were neatly wrapped in music, with subtitles conveniently displayed.

    Miss Geiger is the granddaughter of Carolyn Summers of Lancaster, Luther Roach, Billy Joe Geiger Sr. and Sarah Geiger. She is a 2006 graduate of Buford High School.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lee Smith, III, announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Danielle Blythe, to Thomas Matthew McManus, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 4:00 p.m. July 13, 2013, at Rosewood on Country Club in Lancaster.

  • Julian and Faye Kirkley Faulkenberry celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 7, 2012 with a luncheon at Longhorn Steakhouse in Monroe, N.C., with family and friends.
    They were married July 7, 1962, in Jefferson, S.C.
    The Faulkenberrys have one son, Michael Faulkenberry and his wife, Amanda.
    Julian is retired from the U.S. Air Force and Security Forces and Faye is retired from Walmart Pharmacy as a technician.

  • Samanda Star Null of Lancaster and Bradley Eugene Lyles of Great Falls were married Oct. 27, 2012, at the War Memorial Building in Great Falls by Jessica Threatt.
    The bride is the daughter of Kathy E. Sims of Lancaster and Rex A. Null of West Palm Beach, Fla. She is a 1994 graduate of Lancaster High School and attended York Technical College.

  • Torina Lenise Truesdale of Kissimmee, Fla., and Reginald Dwight Woodie of Tampa, Fla., were married Sept. 14, 2012, at Disney’s Wedding Pavilion in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
    The bride is the daughter of Deborah M. Truesdale of Lancaster and the late Gregory Jay Truesdale. She is the granddaughter of the late Virgie Lee and Lawrence D. Moore Sr. and of the late Manella C. and Jay Ross Truesdale.

  • Fred E. “Pat” Lowery and Sarah E. Stokes Lowery celebrated their 65th anniversary on August 12, 2012, in the fellowship hall at Taxahaw Baptist Church.
    They were married August 3, 1947, at the parsonage of A.R.P. Church of Lancaster by the Rev. T. B. McBride.

  • Jim and Joni Steranka of Lancaster announce the engagement of their daughter, Kristen Steranka of Columbia, to Eric Applewhite of Columbia.

    Miss Steranka is the granddaughter of Thomas and Ruby Bailey of Lancaster and Charlotte Steranka of Pittsburgh, Pa. She is a 2006 graduate of Lancaster High School and a 2011 graduate of Anderson University with a degree in interior design. She is an interior designer at Miller’s, Inc., in Columbia.
