    Greenway camp registration open

    Anne Springs Close Greenway has opened summer camp registration online at www.ASCGreenway.org. More than 50 summer camps are available for children ages 3-18. Families can choose half-day or full-day camps at the Greenway. Overnight equestrian camp and boys’ wilderness camp are offered at Springmaid Mountain in Spruce Pine, N.C. There are also indoor camps at the recreation complex.

    Editor's note: Kevin Cauthen sent us this evocative remembrance of his mother, Barbara Day Cauthen of Heath Springs, who passed away Dec. 31 at age 87.  

    Mom was not one to go out and socialize a lot. The people she was closest to were her family and her many church friends. She loved people and was patient, giving, caring and kind to all.

  • Mary Gambrell of Greenville and Arthur Johnson of Buford, Ga., announce the engagement of their daughter, Darien Gambrell, to Christopher Harris Jr., both of Columbia.

    The wedding is planned for March 25, 2017, in Blythewood.

    Miss Gambrell is a 2015 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in public health. She is an emergency medical technician at Lexington Medical Center.

  • Amanda Dawn Blackwell and Jody Scott Bigham were married Nov. 26, 2016, in Monroe, N.C.

    The bride is the daughter of Dawn and Lewis Blackwell of Lancaster. She is the granddaughter of Iris Blackmon and the late Bob Blackmon, and the late Johnny and Mary Blackwell, all of Lancaster.

    She is a graduate of Buford High School, and earned an associate degree in business in 2007. She is an office manager at the Lancaster County Treasurer’s Office.
