  • Editor’s note: We are reprinting this Remember When column, which was originally published in the Nov. 8, 2008, edition of The Lancaster News, at the request of our readers.

    At one time, the significance of Nov. 11 – Veterans Day – wasn’t lost on anyone.

    Of course, World War I ended years before I was born, but Uncle Harry made sure I was well-schooled on what he called the War to End All Wars.

    There was a bunch of World War I soldiers around, too.

  • Amanda Carol Jaillette and Brandon Neil Couch were married at 5:30 p.m. April 12, 2014, at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Phillips.

  • Ashley Christine Hance and Jamie Daniel Wheeler were married at 6 p.m. Aug. 23, 2014, at Lakeside Pavilion on Lake Wateree in Camden by the Rev. Heather Reitenga of Chapin.
    The bride is the daughter of Rita Hance of Lancaster and Boyd Hance Jr. of Heath Springs. She is the granddaughter of the late Elizabeth and Boyd Hance Sr. and the late Evelyn and Emmitt Cauthen. She is a 2007 graduate of Lancaster High School and received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina Lancaster in 2010. She is a manager at Aldi Inc. in Lancaster.

  • Laura Elizabeth Grier and James W. “Ren” Henderson III were married July 4, 2014, in Las Vegas, Nev.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Grier of Lancaster. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 2001 and is a billing auditor for Southeastern Freight Lines.
    The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. James W. Henderson Jr. of Lancaster. He received a bachelor’s degree from Newberry College in 1998.
    The bride was given in marriage by her father, Thomas E. Grier.

  • Hattie L. Massey of Lancaster announces the engagement of her daughter, Lora Ann Massey, to Truman Bull.
    The wedding is planned for July 2015.
    Miss Massey is the daughter of the late Curtis Massey. She is the granddaughter of the late Ebie Sanders and the late Henry and Daisy Massey. She attended York Technical College and Central Piedmont Community College majoring in computer application and mortgage applications.  She is the owner of Lora’s Rental Properties, works for Bank of America as a business support lead officer and is a notary public.

  • John and Jeri Rogers announce the engagement of their daughter, Hannah Faith Rogers, all of Kershaw, to Jacob Andrew Dutton of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 6 p.m. May 9, 2015.
    Miss Rogers is the granddaughter of S.W. and Virginia Faile of Kershaw and of the late Jerry and Alma Singleton. She is a 2012 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School and attends the University of South Carolina Lancaster. She works as a pharmaceutical technician at CVS.

  • Tabitha Reneé Trapps and Nathan DeMart Lineberger were married June 7, 2014, at New Hope AME Zion Church by the Rev. James Scott Jr.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Trapps and the granddaughter of Almetta Cunningham, all of Lancaster. She is a 1992 graduate of Lancaster High School and earned an associate’s degree in management in 2010.

  • Rebekah Phillips and Ryan Watson were married at 5 p.m. Dec. 28, 2013, at Pleasant Plain Baptist Church by the Rev. Dale Myers.
    The bride is the daughter of Maurice and Zoe Phillips. She is the granddaughter of the late Ralph and Idell Dunn and of the late Sammie Lee and Lillian Phillips. She is a graduate of Winthrop University and works for the Chesterfield County School District.

  • Susan Graves and Don Williams announce the engagement of their daughter, Whitney Williams, to Brice Blackmon, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. Nov. 8, 2014, at The Craig House.
    Miss Williams is a 2006 graduate of Lancaster High School and works for the City of Lancaster as an account clerk.
    Mr. Blackmon is the son of Alton and Diane Blackmon of Lancaster. He is a 2006 graduate of Lancaster High School and works as a CNC operator for Pattinson Sign Group.

  • Melinda and Larry Flynn announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Marie Flynn, all of Lancaster, to Derek Alexander Blackmon of Heath Springs.
    The wedding is planned for 3 p.m. Oct. 26, 2014, at Cares Lake Banquet Hall in Lancaster.
    Miss Flynn is the granddaughter of Guy Stacks of Lancaster and the late Carl Stacks. She is a 2010 graduate of Lancaster High School and earned a medical assistant’s degree in 2012. She works as a medical assistant.
