    Lancaster County offices will close Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
    County Planning Commission meets
    The Lancaster County Planning Commission will meet at 5 p.m. July 7, in the Lancaster County Administration Building, 101 N. Main St.
    This will be the group’s monthly workshop to discuss the agenda for its next meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 19. For details, call (803) 285-6005.

  • - Immanuel Baptist Church, 1152 Great Falls Highway, will conclude VBS from 9 a.m. to noon today. Snacks will be provided. The theme is “Submerged: The Dive Begins: Finding Truth Below the Surface.” Ages range from pre-kindergarten through rising sixth-graders. For details, call (803) 283-8459.
    u Elgin Baptist Church, 2303 Belmont St., will have VBS from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 9. Family time is from 4 to 6 p.m.

  • - The 37th annual Charlesboro July 4th parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 4. The pledge of allegiance and prayer will be held at New Haven Baptist Church on Taxahaw Road at 10:15 a.m. Lineup is also at the church. There is no need to reserve a space. Safe vehicles displaying an American flag from families, churches and other community groups are welcome.

  • Robert D. Williams and Donna L. Williams announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Lynn Williams, to Taylor Jaymes Soltow, all of Kershaw.

    The wedding is planned for 6 p.m. April 15, 2017, at Carolina Sunrise in North Myrtle Beach.

    Miss Williams is the granddaughter of Linda and Danny Williams of Kershaw and Jewel Neal of Lancaster. She is a 2016 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, and plans to attend Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology in August. She works at Mirror Image hair salon.

  • Charles “Chuck” Ussery of Kershaw announces the engagement of his daughter, Julie Elizabeth Ussery, to Matthew Brian Usher, both of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. August 6, 2016, at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

    Miss Ussery is the granddaughter of Charles and Pat Ussery of Kershaw. She is a 2007 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. She is an administrative assistant at Sheheen, Hancock & Godwin, LLP.

  • Scott and Sharon Cato announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Cato, all of Lancaster, to Tyler Bradley of Kershaw.

    The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. July 17, 2016, in Monroe, N.C.

    Miss Cato is the granddaughter of Larry and Margaret Harrison of Lancaster and Charles and Carol Lucas of Coolville, Ohio. She is a 2010 graduate of Lancaster High School and has a bachelor of science degree in childhood education. She is a first-grade teacher at North Elementary School.

  • Victor and Sharon Caldwell announce the engagement of their daughter, Paige Elizabeth Caldwell, to Brett Michael Sitte, all of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 6 p.m. Oct 1, 2016, at the Garden Cafe in York.

  • A dozen butterflies were released Wednesday morning at Red Rose Park in the heart of Lancaster in honor of the late Mayor Joe Shaw, who served the city for 33 years.
    More than 30 citizens, city and county officials, garden club members and special guest Charlotte Shaw, widow of Joe Shaw, were in attendance to honor the former mayor.
