    Word of Wisdom and prayer

    God’s Holy Temple Church, 120 E. Gay St., will have Word of Wisdom and prayer at 2 p.m. today. The event is for seniors, but all are welcome.

    Revival services

    - Red Hill Baptist Church, 2020 Red Hill Road, will conclude revival services at 7 p.m. today. Guest speaker is the Rev. Ricky Haile of New Zion Baptist Church. 

  • - Oak Hill Baptist Church, 6437 Oak Hill Church Road, will kick off VBS with water games and ice cream at 6 p.m. today. VBS is 6 to 8:30 p.m. today through July 28. The theme is “Cave Quest.” All ages are welcome.

    - Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4357 Kershaw Camden Highway, Heath Springs, will have VBS from 6 to 8 p.m. today through July 28. The theme is “Submerged: The Dive Begins: Finding Truth Below the Surface.”

  • Dixon to address IL Democrats

    Pastor Thomas Dixon, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, will discuss his campaign agenda at the Indian Land Democratic Club meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Indian Land High School, 8063 River Road. Dixon will challenge Republican Sen. Tim Scott in the general election Nov. 8.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Brown announce the engagement of their daughter, Taylor Brown, all of Fort Lawn, to Cody Thompson of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. Oct. 1, 2016, in Lancaster.

  • Mr. and Mrs. James Daryl Roney announce the engagement of their daughter, Chelsea Lauren Roney, to Justin Devin Arant, all of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 7 p.m. July 29, 2016, at Carnes Lake.

    Miss Roney is the granddaughter of Bill and Sherry Outen, the late Bronna Ackerman and the late George and Frances Roney. She is a 2009 graduate of Lancaster High School and a graduate of York Technical College. She is a medical office assistant at New Day Family Medicine.

  • Richard Wagner of Colorado and Bridgett Miller of Spartanburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Carmisha Ne’Shel Miller, to Jared Larnel White, both of Spartanburg.

    The wedding is planned for Sept. 17, 2016, at Foster Grove Baptist Church in Chesnee.

  • Willie L. and Gussenia D. Haggins announce the engagement of their daughter, Sheneek L. Haggins, to Willie B. Jackson, all of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. Aug. 13, 2016, at First Washington Baptist Church.

  • Floyd “Billy” Foster Sr. and Rachel White Foster celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 2, 2016.

    The couple celebrated with a drop-in reception at the Lynwood Drive Church of God fellowship hall.

    They were married July 2, 1966, in Lancaster.

  • Sun City Carolina Lakes resident Ann Spitzer had heard the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields” before, but never knew the special connection it had to her family.

    In a diary entry dated May 2, 1915, Maj. John McCrae writes that Lt. Alexis Helmer, with the Canadian Field Artillery’s 2nd Battery, was killed in Flanders (Belgium), and the photo he kept of his fiancee was buried with him, a hole right through it from the bomb that took his life.
