    The Rock Hill – Fort Mill Area Transportation Study is undertaking an initiative to facilitate bicycle and pedestrian connectivity by creating bikeways, walkways and trails in the Panhandle.

    Dance schools are dusting off their equipment and sweeping their floors – dance season has begun.
    Nightly, the music will be blaring as young students learn new routines and dances. More importantly, the dancers will learn skills that will last long after the music stops and the season ends.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Brown announce the engagement of their daughter, Taylor Brown, all of Fort Lawn, to Cody Thompson of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. Oct. 1, 2016, in Lancaster.

  • Mr. and Mrs. James Daryl Roney announce the engagement of their daughter, Chelsea Lauren Roney, to Justin Devin Arant, all of Lancaster.

    The wedding is planned for 7 p.m. July 29, 2016, at Carnes Lake.

    Miss Roney is the granddaughter of Bill and Sherry Outen, the late Bronna Ackerman and the late George and Frances Roney. She is a 2009 graduate of Lancaster High School and a graduate of York Technical College. She is a medical office assistant at New Day Family Medicine.

    The couple celebrated with a drop-in reception at the Lynwood Drive Church of God fellowship hall.

    They were married July 2, 1966, in Lancaster.

  • Sun City Carolina Lakes resident Ann Spitzer had heard the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields” before, but never knew the special connection it had to her family.

    In a diary entry dated May 2, 1915, Maj. John McCrae writes that Lt. Alexis Helmer, with the Canadian Field Artillery’s 2nd Battery, was killed in Flanders (Belgium), and the photo he kept of his fiancee was buried with him, a hole right through it from the bomb that took his life.
