In response to Sheila Bickford’s Carolina Gateway letter, “Mulvaney lacks ability to compromise: You’ve got to be kidding!
Before you make a statement like that, you have to recognize what Washington, D.C., is. Beyond all the statues, pillars, monuments and columns are the lobbyists and special interest groups, whose only job is to extract as much taxpayer money as possible for the interest group they represent.
Between 2008 and 2010, when the liberal Democrats took over, the first thing that took place was the loss of checks and balances written into the U.S. Constitution. That opened the spending valve so the liberal Democrats could do what they wanted, which spend money like a drunken person.
The president pushed for and got a crippling law passed (Obamacare).
When Republicans wanted to review the 2,000-page bill, Democrat Nancy Pelosi said, “You have to sign the bill before you can see what is in it.” How does anyone compromise with a dumb statement like that?
The old Democratic Party has been hijacked by Woodstock liberals.
Let’s go back before Obama and his ilk took over Washington, D.C. Gasoline was $1.80 per gallon; four years later, it is now more than $3.50 a gallon. Home and property values are reduced by 50 percent. It was liberal Democrats Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. Barney Frank who destroyed the real estate market. The dollar is becoming worthless. CD interest rates before Obama were at least 3 percent, and four years later, under Obama, interest is .5 percent or less. The Democrats have driven America trillions of dollars into debt that we will never be able to pay off.
Under this administration, there are no jobs, food prices are rising, our infrastructure is in disrepair and real estate is in the dumps. More than 40 million people can’t find employment. The U.S. Postal Service is broke, Social Security is broke, the railroads need subsidizing and Obama’s foreign policy is a complete disaster.
Does anyone really think this country is headed in the right direction? We have to stop the spending and pass a budget. It is the law that the government must pass a budget every year and this administration hasn’t passed a budget in four years.
Compromise is not in the liberal Democratic playbook. The only compromise is to get on bended knee and rubber-stamp every spending bill the president puts before conservative Republicans.
The liberals do not compromise on anything; they demand you follow their trail of financial debris that goes over the cliff.
Give thanks to people like Mulvaney, who leave their families to go to Washington, D.C., and try to convey to the confused liberal politicians that they must stop kicking the empty bean can down the road.
Sooner or later, the bean can will end up on top of all the other empty cans at the bottom of the financial cliff.
The only bully that you remarked about is Obama, who will not compromise with conservative Republicans.
Here’s something to think about: The First Amendment (right to free speech) is almost gone. If we lose the Second Amendment (the right to bear arms), the country is gone.
Sheila, your apology is accepted.
