When is it time for hospice? Many terminally ill patients, families, and healthcare providers face the dilemma in deciding when hospice becomes an option. According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, about 58 percent of Americans die without hospice services.
Upon diagnosis of a terminal illness, it is helpful to seek consultation from a hospice provider to discuss the future. Once a decision is made to forgo curative treatment for the terminal illness and to focus on quality of life and being comfortable at home, hospice is an option.
