What is a fire protection district?

On Oct. 26, Lancaster County Council adopted Resolution No. 737 to begin the process of establishing a fire protection district for the Indian Land Fire District, coupled with the abolishment of three special tax districts.
A non-binding, advisory referendum will be held on Jan. 18, 2011, for all registered voters in the Indian Land Fire District.
What is a fire protection district and what will it mean to me? That’s a big question and not one that can be answered quickly.
