Weekend Recap: August 14, 2017

More than 1,000 Lancaster County School District teachers and faculty celebrated great teaching Monday morning, Aug. 14, at Buford High School. Troy Helms, an agriculture teacher at Buford High, won the District Great Teaching Award and high school award. A.R. Rucker eighth-grade history teacher Palmer Hudson won the middle school award.

Lori Small, a kindergarten teacher at North Elementary, won the elementary school award. Brittany Bullard, an Indian Land Middle School special education teacher, won the Great Teaching Award for Beginning Teachers. White Oak revival services

White Oak AME Zion Church, 1281 Rebound Road, Van Wyck, will hold its annual revival services at 7 p.m. Aug. 14-16. Dr. Vincent Meeks of Catawba Chapel AME Zion Church will speak on Sunday and the Rev. Dr. O.L. Smith and Pastor Browns will speak during the week.

Second Calvary revival service

New Hope AME Zion Church, 3363 Pink Plyler Road, Lancaster, will hold revival services at 7 p.m. Aug. 14-16. The Rev. Lee Edwards of First Washington Baptist Church will speak on Monday and the Rev. Harold Jones of Mount Carmel AME Zion Church will speak on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sand Hill Missionary revival services

Sand Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 4143 Uriah Road, Kershaw, will hold its annual revival services at 7 p.m. Aug. 14-16. The Rev. Kenneth Cauthen will speak on Monday, the Rev. Lorenzo Small on Tuesday and the Rev. Gray Stevenson on Wednesday.

County council meets Aug. 14

The Lancaster County Council meeting is 6 p.m. Aug. 14 at the county administration building, 101 N. Main St.

Conservation board to meet

The Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation Board of Commissioners has rescheduled its meeting for 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at its office, 1771 Highway 521 Bypass South.

Sports Short

LCPRC sets fall sports registration

The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission has set fall sports registration.

The fee for football, ages 7-12, is $75. The cheerleading fee is $30 for ages 7-12.

Soccer, ages 5-15, is $65. Youth volleyball, ages 7-12, is $50.

The LCPRC also offers an introduction to soccer for ages 4 only. The fee is $50.

Each child will be introduced to the basic techniques of soccer preparing them to have fun and enjoy soccer. Each child will receive a T-shirt and soccer ball. Participants meet twice a week for approximately six weeks. The age cut-off date is Sept. 1.

- Springdale Recreation Complex, 260 S. Plantation Road: Aug. 14-18, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
