Hoops, mats contests are impacted

Old Man Winter, in the form of a winter storm, has caused county high school athletic officials to reset a host of contests this week.

Early week prep basketball and wrestling action was wiped with a winter storm which brought snow and icy road conditions to put play on hold.

Lancaster High School has reset several activities in Region III-AAAA.

The Bruins road game with Clover, set for Tuesday, Jan. 28 at CHS, was reset for Thursday, Jan. 30, but with no school on Thursday in Lancaster County, the game has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 1 at Clover High.

Play begins at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity girls game, followed by the varsity girls game at 5:30 and the varsity boys game at 7.

The LHS B-team and junior varsity boys basketball games with Rock Hill, set for Thursday, Jan. 30, will be played Friday, Jan. 31 at RHHS.

Lancaster is slated to host Rock Hill tonight in a region tripleheader, which opens at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity girls’ game. The varsity girls, ranked seventh in the latest Class AAAA girls state poll, will play at 6:30, with the varsity boys’ game with RHHS to tip off at 8.

The Lancaster High wrestling team, which was slated to host York on Thursday, Jan. 30, will travel to York for the match tonight, Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. The weigh-in is at 5 p.m.

Andrew Jackson is scheduled to be at Buford tonight for its scheduled Region IV-AA hoops clash with the Jackets. The action at BHS with AJ begins at 4:15 p.m., with the jayvee girls followed by the jayvee boys. The varsity girls game follows, with the varsity boys capping play at Buford High tonight.

The AJ Lady Vols are ranked No. 5 in the latest Class AA girls state poll.

AJ will also be in action Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Vols will be at home to face Central High of Pageland.

The region game with Central High was originally set for Tuesday, Jan. 28, but was reset due to the winter storm. The jayvee boys game is at 5 p.m., with the varsity girls at 6:30, and the varsity boys to follow.

The Buford basketball team was scheduled to play at Indian Land on Tuesday, Jan. 28, but the game has been reset due to the winter weather for Monday, Feb. 3 at the IL Warriors’ gym where action opens at 6 p.m. for the varsity girls, and the varsity boys to follow.

The Indian Land boys are rated No. 3 in the Class AA boys state poll.

Buford was slated to host Class A Lewisville on Wednesday, Jan. 29, but the game was postponed to Saturday, Feb. 8 in the BHS gym.

Indian Land will be at home tonight when the Warriors face Cheraw in Region IV-AA play which begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity girls’ game. Indian Land will then host Buford in the make-up basketball games on Monday, Feb. 3.

In prep wrestling, Andrew Jackson will host the All-Region IV-AA tournament on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. Indian Land and Buford will also compete in the all-region tourney at AJ.

The Class AA Upper State Duals tournament is set for Saturday, Feb 8 at Powdersville High School in Greenville.

The Region III-AAAA wrestling tournament is Saturday, Feb. 1 at Fort Mill High School where action begins at 9 a.m. when Lancaster High School will compete with seven other region schools from York County.
