Lancaster County's Adopt-A-Highway volunteers made a major impact in the beautification of their communities when they removed 21,030 pounds of trash from their adopted roadsides last year.
The S.C. Department of Transportation reports that 392 volunteers in Lancaster County picked up litter from along 62 miles of highway in 2007.
Statewide, more than 29,000 Adopt-A-Highway volunteers picked up 1.4 million pounds of trash from more than 6,000 miles of adopted highways.
