AJ enters with 3-0 mark

Defending champion Buford and Andrew Jackson entered the final round of pool play with unbeaten records after Friday action in the second annual Lancaster County Classic Preseason softball tournament.

Buford is 2-0 after downing North Central, 10-0 and Northwestern of Rock Hill. 10-1.

The Lady Jackets captured the 2010 crown with a 9-4 win over the LHS Lady Bruins. BHS advanced to the inaugural title game with a 3-2 win over AJ. Lancaster topped Central 7-4 to move on last season.

In the 2011 field, Andrew Jackson is 3-0 with a 10-8 win over Lugoff-Elgin to go with a 9-0 win over Rock Hill and a 6-3 victory over York.

Indian Land is 1-2, which includes a 2-0 win over York and a 5-4 loss to Fort Mill and a 4-2 setback to Lugoff-Elgin.

Lancaster, led by first-year coach Kim Perry, is 1-2 in the field. The Lady Bruins debuted with a 6-2 win over Crestwood of Sumter, but fell to Northwestern, 5-4. Central of Pageland, 3-0, blanked the LHS Lady Bruins, 6-0 on Friday night. Central also topped Northwestern, 8-1 and blanked North Central, 8-0.

Fort Mill is 2-0, including a 14-0 rout of Rock Hill. 

Crestwood is 1-1 in the tournament as is Lugoff-Elgin. North Central, guided by second-year coach Katherine Small of Lancaster, is 0-3. York is also 0-2 in pool play.

Pool play was completed Saturday to set the pairings for the final round Saturday afternoon.

 In the junior varsity tournament last week at Buford High School, Andrew Jackson finished first, with Lugoff-Elgin second. Buford’s Junior Lady Jackets  were  third and Northwestern placed fourth.
