Vols lasso Stallions, playoff bid

BISHOPVILLE – Andrew Jackson combined a lethal dose of high-octane offense and a suffocating defense to throttle Lee Central 47-2 and claim a third seed in the Class AA Upper State football playoffs against Batesburg-Leesville.

AJ senior quarterback Daniel Pardue torched the Stallions for five touchdown passes, including two each to seniors Tremaine Jackson and Justin Sellers. Pardue finished 18-26 for 235 yards and an interception.The Vols, up 27-0 at the half, scored three touchdowns on three consecutive plays from scrimmage to lead 47-0 at the end of three quarters.“I challenged our team to play four quarters and not take Lee Central lightly,” AJ coach Louis Clyburn said. “This is a good Lee Central team, contrary to their record.“We were able to have some players step up and play tonight,” said Clyburn. “We’ll get prepared to play next week (at Batesburg Leesville, 12-0 winners over Saluda and the second seed from Region II-AA).AJ scored on four of its first five possessions, with drives of 65, 70, 65 and 72 yards.Pardue had scoring strikes of seven yards to Tremaine Jackson, 48 yards to Justin Sellers and three yards to Shayne Donahue.In addition, senior Daniel Wright scored on a one-yard plunge.In the second half, Ryan Phillips recovered a Stallions’ fumble at the LCHS five-yard line. Pardue rolled right and found Tremaine Jackson in the end zone to up the AJ lead to 34-0.The Volunteer defense gave up only 107 yards of total offense and forced a punt with 7:06 left in the game.Jackson then returned the punt 46 yards to the Stallions nine-yard line. On the next play, the Pardue to Sellers combination was golden as Sellers caught his second TD of the night for a 41-0 AJ lead.Jackson set up the last score by intercepting Stallions’ quarterback Shawn Joye at the LC 10 and returning it to the Stallions’ four. Junior QB Darrian Henderson then tossed a TD to William Clyburn to round out the AJ scoring.Lee Central avoided a shutout when AJ was called for holding while Henderson was attempting a pass from the end zone. The penalty resulted in a safety for Lee Central to make the final score 47-2.Pardue completed 19-26 for 235 yards and five touchdowns. Henderson was 1-2 for four yards and a touchdown.Sellers topped the century mark in receiving yards for the second consecutive week. Sellers caught seven passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Tremaine Jackson also had seven receptions for 89 yards and two touchdowns. William Clyburn caught two passes for 19 yards and a touchdown.Ryan Miller snared one pass for 11 yards. Shayne Donohue caught a three-yard TD pass. Daniel Wright caught a screen pass resulting in a seven-yard loss.Trent Flowers rushed for 13 yards on five carries. Wright had 10 yards on four rushes, including a one-yard TD.
