The Andrew Jackson Volunteers highlighted their annual AJ baseball senior night with a 5-0 Region IV-AA win over Cheraw on Tuesday night.

Chandler Neal, in a route job, scattered six hits and struck out seven. He allowed no walks.

AJ senior third baseman Eric Broughton, who had a solid game at the hot corner with four strong defensive plays, aided the AJ attack with two hits and a RBI.

Dustin Eddins drilled two hits and scored twice. Senior Bobby Delly had a hit, drove in three runs and scored a run. Corley Faulkenberry and Alex Brasington each tallied a run for the Vols.

AJ senior players spotlighted included Bobby Delly, Garrett Coates, Eric Broughton and D.J. McIlwain.

AJ, 11-10, 7-2, is slated to visit Lee Central tonight at 7.

Lady Vols blank Braves

The No. 1 ranked Andrew Jackson High School softball team, 22-3, celebrated the Lady Volunteers’ softball senior night with a 15-0 win over Cheraw.

Haley Faulkenberry led the Lady Vols with three hits and drove in three runs. Jamee Blackmon, Summer Truesdale and Hannah Cobb each drilled two hits. Truesdale and Blackmon each had two RBIs.

Kori Ballard smashed a triple and drove home four runs.

T.G. McCowan and Claire McManus each had a hit and drove in a run. Ashley Williams and Angela Sims supplied a hit.

Lauren Rowell, 10-2, was the winner in four innings of work. She allowed two hits, a walk and struck out three. Cobb went an inning and yielded no hits, a walk and whiffed two.

Prior to the game, AJ seniors Jamee Blackmon and Ashley Williams were honored.

AJ hosted rival Buford in a game Thursday which will decide the region softball crown.

Lady Bruins play Clover

The Lancaster High Lady Bruins host Clover tonight in a game to decide the region softball title.

The game is set for 6 p.m. for LHS Lady Bruins’ softball senior night.

Coach Kim Perry’s Lady Bruins hosted Spartanburg in region play Thursday night.

LHS girls soccer host

The Lancaster High Lady Bruins soccer team will be at home tonight to face Clover in a key region match.

Lancaster hosted Spartanburg on Thursday in a match which was reset from Tuesday.

The LHS boys travel to Spartanburg on Monday to play the Vikings.

The Lancaster High girls will host Rock Hill next Thursday, April 26 when the Lady Bruins will honor cancer survivors prior to the LHS girls’ clash with the Lady Bearcats at 7.

The cancer awareness recognition is set for 6:30 at Lancaster Memorial Stadium.

AJ booters split matches

The AJ Vols traveled to Batesburg-Leesville for a soccer match Monday.

Earlier in the season, AJ defeated Batesburg-Leesville 1-0 at Volunteer Stadium.

Once again it was a tough defensive battle that went into overtime.

Three minutes into the overtime, Dylan Jones got what turned out the be the winning goal for the BL Panthers for the final score of 1-0 again, but with Batesburg Leesville winning the rematch.

Tuesday, AJ was back home for a match with Lewisville.

After not scoring in the Batesburg Leesville game, Luke Kennington quickly got two goals for AJ. 

The first tally came after an impressive centering kick from near the corner by Tyler Dinkins. Only a moment later, Jon Ussery got the assist for Kennington’s second goal.

Ussery got the third goal for AJ with an assist from Brandon Neal.

Before the half was over, Luke Kennington got an assist for Zach Arioli’s goal as the Volunteer led 4-0 at half time.  In the second half, Brandon Neal scored off a penalty kick.

Lewisville scored its goal late in the game, making the final score AJ, 5-1.

AJ’s regular season record is now 8-5-4 overall and 3-1 in the region.

Next week AJ plays its final two region matches first at Buford on Tuesday and then Indian Land comes to Andrew Jackson on Thursday for a key region clash.

Jacket golfers win

The Buford Yellow Jackets swept a three-way golf match at the Chester Golf Club, with BHS shooting a 178. Great Falls followed with a 180 and Lewisville carded a 227.

Garrett Crenshaw led the Jackets with a 42. Griggs Griffin followed with a 44 and Matt Crenshaw had a 45 and Chris Self posted a 47.

Great Falls’ Josh Payseur earned medalist honors with a 38. Morgan Frost shot a 45. Brennon Lipscomb had a 48 and Austin Hinson posted a 49.

Lewisville rounded out the field with a 227. Hayden Calli led the Lions with a 53. Logan Young posted a 54 and Austin McCall had a 56. David Bolton finished with a 64.

Jr. Jackets golfers win

The Buford High School junior varsity golf team took a 227-217 win over the Lancaster junior varsity golf team on Monday at the Lancaster Golf Club.

Connor Faile led the Junior Jackets with a 48. Kyle Cato followed with a 55. Josh Vincent and Tucker Griffin each shot a 57.

LHS was paced by medalist Carly Funderburk who shot a 46.

Matthew Martin followed with a 42 and Zachery Hunter had a 43. Zack Catoe posted a 56 for the Junior Bruins.

The Buford High School junior varsity golf team defeated the Indian Land Junior Warriors, 191-215 at Regent Park Golf Club.

Josh Vincent of BHS carded a 44 to reap medalist honors.

Vincent was followed by Kyle Cato’s 47 and Connor Faile’s 49 and Brady Jones’ 51.

Indian Land was led by Nick Shaheen’s 50.

Ryan Daniels had a 51 and Gnor Wagner carded a 55. Nick Bynum posted a 59.
