COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of South Carolina at Lancaster freshman Jackie Brown has been honored as the Div. I National Junior College Athletic Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for games Aug. 29 through Sept. 4.
Brown, who played high school soccer at Grafton High School in Yorktown, Va., tallied four goals in USCL’s 10-0 win over Stanly (N.C.) Community College. Brown displayed her accuracy by scoring the four goals on only six shots. Brown has six goals for the season and will look to build on that total Sunday at Cape Fear CC.
Brown, in her senior year at Grafton was the Clippers’ team captain. She was an all-district selection as a junior when she led the team in assists.
“This was a great accomplishment for the USC Lancaster women’s soccer team. We are glad to have a program that is moving forward and in this type of direction,” said USCL assistant coach Nicole Bulinsky. “This is still a young program that has been building to get these types of awards. We are glad to see our players and team recognized for their work so far. We still have a lot of weeks and games ahead of us so we are still looking for team leadership and unity to move us into the next month.”
The Lancers coaches recommended two USCL players for the week.
Hattie Ruch, of Fort Mil, was also recommended for goalie of the week.
Ruch has been working hard in goal since the preseason with Lancers’ GK assistant Michael Shelton.
“We are working to put Lancaster on the map and by being recognized in our region and nationally is one of our goals,” Bulinsky said.
In the win over Stanly County CC, Cyndle McGuinness had two goals and two assists. Andrea Lavieri tallied two goals and an assist.
Ashleigh Outen tallied a goal with two assists. Sidney Teague added a goal. Shelby Bazemore and Jaime Leigh Johnson each had an assist.
