USCL tennis team downs Pfeiffer

Lancers prevail 8-1

The University of South Carolina at Lancaster men’s tennis team defeated the Pfeiffer University junior varsity team, 8-1 on Thursday afternoon at the J.P. Richards Tennis Complex.

The Lancers, 2-3, started strong by sweeping the three doubles matches. The first win of the day came at No. 2 doubles when freshmen Justin Lewis and Joey Nylund won, 8-1.

Freshmen Matthew Canelon played a solid match, winning 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles.

USCL took three of the next four matches with one remaining.

In the last match of the day, sophomore Henry Remache dropped the first set 6-4, but hung in to win the second set in a tiebreaker. A match tiebreaker was played to determine the winner and Remache won 10-8.

The men’s team will have a couple weeks off from matches. After spring break, the team will next be in action March 19 at Presbyterian College for a 2 p.m. match.

The team’s next home match is March 20 at 9 a.m. against Harford Community College.
