The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lady Lancers soccer team made history, winning a bid to the Region X tournament at Spartanburg Methodist with a 3-1 play-in match win over the USC Salkehatchie Lady Indians on Wednesday in Allendale.

Freshman Lauren White gave USCL a 1-0 lead with a first-half goal off an assist from Cyndle McGuinness.

In the second half, former Lancaster High standout Ashley Cauthen scored off a McGuinness corner kick for a 2-0 edge. USCS scored to make it 2-1, but USCL sealed the win as McGuinness tallied off an Ashleigh Aiello assist.

Keeper Hattie Ruch notched 10 saves for the Lady Lancers.

“We’ve been in this position before and we finally pulled through,” USCL coach Nicole Bulinsky said. “We played as a unit and the key was a good, positive attitude.”

USCL faces tourney top seed Cape Fear on Saturday at 11 a.m. on the SMC campus.
