Due to a static funding formula used by the S.C. Assembly to fund higher education, University of South Carolina Lancaster’s funding has not kept up with that of other regional campuses on a per-pupil basis.
The Lancaster legislative delegation, including Reps. Deborah Long and Mandy Powers-Norrell and Sens. Greg Gregory and Vincent Sheheen, was able to secure a 26 percent increase in state funding for USCL in the 2013-14 budget.
Legislators were assisted in this effort by Lancaster resident and USC board of trustees member Hugh Mobley.
