A contract newspaper carrier for The Lancaster News was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday, Jan. 6, and deputies are still searching for the suspects.
Deputies responded about 4:20 a.m. to The Speedee Mart, at 1416 Pageland Highway, about a report of an armed robbery, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release. The convenience store is beside the Lancaster County Water and Sewer District office.
When they arrived, deputies spoke with a 45-year-old man who had been at the store delivering newspapers. The store was closed at the time.
The victim reported that after stocking the newspaper box, he went to a dumpster to throw away some trash. That’s when two black men wearing dark clothing approached him and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint, the release said.
The victim said the men stole money and his wallet.
The two men then drove from the scene in an older-model green car, the release said. No one was injured during the armed robbery.
Sheriff’s Maj. Matt Shaw said Monday evening the case was ongoing, though no arrests have been made.
“There’s no new information in the case and nothing else appropriate for release at this time,” Shaw said.
Anyone with information on the identity or location of those responsible for the armed robbery is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (803) 283-4136 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime SC (1-888-274-6372). You can also e-mail or text your anonymous tip to: www.midlandscrimestoppers.com.
