A suspect wanted in connection to two missing children in Chesterfield County early Thursday, Dec. 20, was arrested here about 11:45 a.m. near the North Carolina state line after a police chase.
Authorities had issued an statewide Amber Alert for two children – Dennis Matthew Penny III, 5, and Grace Elizabeth Penny, 2.
The two were taken from their home in the Mount Croghan community about 7:30 a.m., Thursday and were believed to be with 37-year old Dennis Matthew Penny II.
Authorities issued a be-on-the-lookout-for-bulletin for Penny II’s vehicle, a white 2005 GMC Sierra pickup (S.C. license plate No. HXQ 669).
According to police radio traffic, the pickup was spotted by deputies on U.S. 521 (Charlotte Highway) about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, but the driver refused to stop and sped up.
Deputies chased the vehicle east on Shlioh-Unity Road and the driver turned north along Craig Farm Road toward the N.C. line. The driver turned back west on Tirzah Church Road where the chase ended near a turkey farm.
The driver, who was not identified, was arrested.
“The kids are OK,” said Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Matt Shaw. “All our people are OK and even the guy (driver) is OK. There was no property damage and he’s going to jail.”
