Lancaster High School senior athletes Quinshun “Bubba” Evans and Elizabeth Gaston, earlier in the week, were named Mr. and Miss Bruin, respectively at the LHS Senior Awards.

On Friday night, May 23 during the Bruins spring sports awards, both were in the blue and gold spotlight again.

Gaston, the LHS catcher, earned the Lady Bruins softball MVP and was, as LHS softball coach Kim Perry noted, a vital part of the team making the Class AAAA softball playoffs for the 36th straight season.

Gaston, who played volleyball in the fall, will play in the annual North-South All-Star softball game at USC-Aiken next month.

Evans, a three-sport star in football, wrestling and track, reaped all-region honors in track and was presented an award for placing in the top eight in the discus at the Class AAAA state track meet.

Senior soccer player Frances Whitesides earned her share of honors, garnering the Lady Bruins’ MVP soccer award for the fourth straight season as well as all-region laurels.

She is the first LHS girls soccer player selected to play in the annual Clash of the Carolinas on July 12 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island near Charleston. The game features the Carolinas top senior soccer players.
