Four Indian Land High School football players earned top honors at the weekly meeting of the Founders Federal Tri-County Football Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Warriors’ standouts Breyon Williams, Jimmy Locklear, A.J. Gordon and Michael Rodriguez were spotlighted for their play in IL’s 45-12 home win over Lee Central of Bishopville.
Williams, a senior running back, ran for 153 yards in 14 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Warriors’ win.
Locklear, who graded 89 percent with a pancake block, shared the offensive lineman award with Chester’s Da’keavis Wilmore and Lewisville’s J.T. Crosby.
A.J. Gordon, who notched six tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, two big hits and broke up three passes, earned the defensive lineman award. Gordon shared the honor with Chester’s Troy Brown and Justin Douglas of Lewisville, who had six tackles and two tackles for loss.
IL special teams holder Michael Rodriguez reaped the special teams player award after posting four tackles on kickoffs. He is also perfect on holds with 39-39 on extra points and nine of nine on field goals.
In Division I awards, South Pointe had two winners, Devin Pearson (offensive player) and Landon Ard (special teams player). Northwestern also had two winners, Chad Burris (offensive lineman) and Alvin McClure who shared the defensive player of the week award with Ian McDowell of Rock Hill.
Rock Hill’s Tate McDaniel earned defensive lineman of the week.
Lancaster High School senior linebacker Ervin Moore, who had 10 tackles, a sack and a caused fumble, was a Div. I honorable mention selection for defensive player of the week.
Indian Land senior defensive back Jarrell Robinson, with seven tackles, caused fumble, broken up pass, three big hits and a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown, was an honorable mention for the Div. II defensive player.
Lewisville High honorable mentions included Zach Carter (defensive player) and Carlos McGraw (offensive player),
