Treasurer’s Office makes paying taxes convenient

-A A +A

Carrie Helms

In the Lancaster County Treasurer’s Office, we pride ourselves on providing quality customer service to the people who pay our bills, as part of my commitment to put taxpayers first in Lancaster County.

While nobody enjoys paying taxes, one of our top priorities is to make paying your taxes simple and easy.

The treasurer’s office allows you several options to pay your county taxes – cash, check or credit card. While you can mail in check payments, you can pay with cash, check or credit card in person at our office in downtown Lancaster. Our office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

If you mail a payment, the receipt or decal no longer comes from the treasurer’s office. The receipt and decal will be mailed from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), allow seven to 10 business days. This saves the county on postage. If you don’t receive your decal within seven to 10 business days, you need to contact DMV at (803) 896-5000. If you owe a late fee, the decal will not come in the mail. You will have to go to the DMV to pay the late fee to get your decal. If you have to go to the DMV we will be more than happy to fax DMV a paid receipt so you don’t have to come by the office.

In addition to being able to make credit card payments for tax bills in person, you can also use this method of payment online or by telephone. Online payments can be made on the Lancaster County Treasurer website: www.mylancastercountysctax.org or phone by calling (888) 525-3661. If you call the 888 number, they will ask for a receipt number. The receipt number is the same thing as the notice number that is printed on your tax bill. Please be aware that there is a 2.25 percent convenience fee to process tax payments made with a credit card. All processing fees are collected by the service provider and do not go to the county.

If you process your payment by phone or the website, your payment information will not show up as having been paid in our office until the next business day. This means if you pay online or by phone on the day your taxes are due, your payment will not show up until the next day.

If you have questions, please feel free to stop by our office at the main county building in downtown Lancaster or you can call us at (803) 285-7939.

You can also get more information by looking up the treasurer’s website: www.mylancastersctax.org.
