Touching words too late for 3-year-old

I read Betty Ann Stevens’ letter, “Young need to put down guns, parents need to speak up,” in the July 29 edition of The Lancaster News.

There were some touching words in the letter. But those words were too late for my 3-year-old granddaughter, Jaylen Jackson. She lost her life to the negligence of others when she was shot and killed when she got caught in a crossfire.

I’m not here to put anyone down, but if the truth is to be told make sure we clarify the wrongdoings of all young boys.

No one should lose their life because of some else’s stupidness. Now, others will feel the pain my daughter and I feel. There is a story behind every young man’s gun. But there was no story behind my 3-year-old granddaughter’s death.

My baby was 3 years old. She didn’t get to live her life.
