Two Lancaster women and a juvenile were airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte following a single car accident in the Buford community Tuesday, June 3.

The accident occurred about 4:09 p.m. on Rocky River Road (S.C. 522) about 13 miles east of Lancaster between Cannery and Camp Creek roads.

S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Greg Miller said Amanda Hegler, 26, Sammi Jo Messer, 27, and an unidentified juvenile were injured in the accident.

According to Miller, Hegler was driving north in a 2007 Honda sedan when she drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected and ran off the left side where the car struck a tree.

The impact caused the car to flip, ejecting both Hegler and Messer before coming to rest right side up against a fence.

Neither Hegler, Messer or the juvenile were wearing seat belts, Miller said, though the juvenile was not ejected, or pinned in.

Miller did not elaborate on the extent of the juvenile’s injuries, though all three were flown from the Buford Volunteer Fire Department to Carolinas Medical Center where their conditions were still unavailable as of press time Thursday, June 5.
