Growth expected to create new jobs

Lancaster’s Thomas & Betts will undergo a major expansion that's expected to create more jobs at its plant at 3468 Old Camden Highway (off Kershaw Camden Highway, just south of the Elgin community).

The company, which makes steel power transmission structures, will add shifts in order to meet increased demands for its products, according to a media release issued Monday, March 4.

Thomas & Betts makes transmission poles for utility companies and cooperatives throughout the United States. A large percentage of these poles remain in the Southeast and along the East Coast.

This expansion is expected to increase the number of employees at the plant by about 30 percent this year.

The new jobs will include CNC (computer numerical control) operators, welders, fitters and other skilled positions.
