Several agencies, including the United Way of Lancaster County, American Red Cross, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Alston Wilkes Society, Lancaster County Council on Aging and many other volunteers, participated in the unofficial homeless count conducted throughout the county March 15 through May 1.
Residents’ help was needed in identifying the places where homeless individuals were living. Many tips were received and followed up on.
The task force tried to find out what the needs of the homeless were and worked to see that those needs were met.
The Homeless Task Force would like to invite the public to a town hall meeting to reveal the results of the homeless count. The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the University of South Carolina Lancaster’s Carole Ray Dowling Center, 509 Hubbard Drive.
For additional details on the local homeless count, contact Melanie Outlaw of the United Way of Lancaster County at (803) 283-8923.
