Lancaster junior golfer Anthony “T” Sutton placed second in the Blade Classic in Greenville on July 16-17.
The Blade Classic is considered the state’s top junior golf event and is by invitation only.
Sutton, 12, competed in the boys 10-12 group.
He opened with a 1-under 34 to lead the tournament by a shot over Graham Corbin of Inman, Holden Grigg of Myrtle Beach and Drayton Stewart of Charleston.
Sutton continued his strong play, posting a solid one-over 38 on the back to shoot an even 72 on Thornblade, home of the Web.com tours BMW Championships.
Corbin, playing in the group in front of Sutton, posted a tournament-best 5 under on the back nine to win by 5 strokes and win the overall title.
Sutton also competed in the U.S. Kids Charlotte tour this past spring, winning at Pine Island on Feb. 23, TPC Piper Glen on April 6, the Tradition Golf Club on April 14 and the Tour Championships at Tega Cay Golf Club on June 2, posting a 72 on the tough layout.
Sutton’s top play earned him the Player of the Year, placing him in the U.S. Kids World Championships being held at Pinehurst, N.C., No. 8 on Aug. 1-3. Sutton also plays with the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association which hosted its annual Roy Small Junior Championships this week at the Lancaster Golf Club.
