Lancaster area youth golf star Anthony "T" Sutton has received an invitation to play in the European Golf Championship.

Sutton, a first-grade student at Buford Elementary, earned the invitation following his stellar play at the World Championship and National Championship.

Sutton placed 13th and 12th in those elite tournaments.

He shot an 85 (41-44) in the national tournament at Jekyll Island, Ga., and posted a 117 (39-38-40) in the world championship at Pinehurst, N.C.

The European Championship is May 27-30 at Gullame, East Lothian Scotland. Scotland is considered the birthplace of golf.

Sutton is a member of the Lancaster Junior Golf Association, U.S. Kids Golf and the National Junior Golf Club where he holds a high ranking in each club.

Sutton will represent the Buford area, Lancaster County and S.C. while in Scotland this spring.

The cost of such a trip is substantial, so the family is having a benefit barbecue to meet and greet the young golfer.

The barbecue will be held at the County Line Store located at the crossroads of S.C. 522 and Camp Creek Road.

The barbecue is a two-day event, which will be held Feb. 22-23.

"We want area folks to come and meet 'T' and enjoy some great food," said a family spokesman.

The meal will be chopped pork, chicken quarters and fixings.

An account has also been established at Founders Federal Credit Union for those who would like to donate to the trip.

The account is listed as "Anthony Sutton's Golf Trip."

Anyone who has ideas about the fundraiser, or would like to help can contact the Sutton family at 286-0014.

The Sutton family would like to thank the Lancaster Golf Club, the Crow's Nest Driving Range, Kershaw Country Club, White Plains Country Club and Jim and Kelly Griffin for hosting the benefit barbecue.

"T" Sutton is the son of Tony and Teresa Sutton.
