Sunday alcohol sales petition needs signatures

-A A +A

It has been awhile since the community has addressed the petition drive that is under way. This is an initiative to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages in restaurants on Sundays in Lancaster County. No full-service restaurant from the big chains to an upscale small restaurant will consider a location in our area without this much-needed change.
Why do we need it, you may ask. Well, plain and simple, it is this:
u We are losing money to other counties.
u Increase in new restaurants and job opportunities
u A viable community attracts more businesses.
u Economic growth
Remember the slogan of Think Lancaster First is “Live, Shop, Dine.” We want people to live here and we need to make the county attractive to all. We want nice restaurants, convenient shopping and amenities and new businesses coming to the area (although not businesses like a waste-management company).
Some people think this is an easy change that can be rubber-stamped by our lawmakers. Unfortunately, this is not the case. It is entirely up to the community to get involved.
By signing the petition, you are saying you are in favor of putting this on the next general election ballot in 2012 for the people to decide. All in the community should have the right to vote on this.
If you have not signed a petition, please go to one of the following locations to sign: Johnny’s Pub and Grub and Carolina Wine and Spirits (in the Harris Teeter shopping center) both in Indian Land; or Wing King Café, Grinders or Applebees, all in Lancaster.
