The Springs Memorial Hospital team topped a 17-team field to win the 19th annual Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce’s Rub of the Green golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.
The Springs Memorial team, which shot a 14-under 58, included Nathan Crabtree, Doug Arbour, Charles Wright and Ronnie Daves.
The First Citizens team, with a 61, was second. The runner-up team featured Dennis Nichols, Jerry Williams, Brad Small and Don Gardner. The third-place team was the State Farm foursome of Buck Tucker, Chuck Loughry, John Hess and Toby Taylor.
Jerry Baker captured two of the individual awards, including longest drive on No. 5 and closest to the pin on No. 7. Libby Smith was the ladies longest drive winner on No. 1 and Brent Richardson won closest to the pin on No. 4.
Terry Clyburn posted the close-up on No. 13 and Jay Rainey had the seniors’ longest drive. George Flanders registered the closest to the pin on No. 14.
“We were real pleased with the tournament,” said Lancaster Chamber executive director Dean Faile. “We had great sponsorship and everybody had a big time.”
A highlight was the First Citizens Bank’s sponsored No. 17 where golfers donned Scottish golf attire, kilts and tams, for photos. Golfers could also take advantage of a special green-side drop zone.
Tournament officials also recognized the “last-place team” of Steve Sherrill, Rick Jiran, Vickie Porter and Susan Rowell, who teamed for a 75. Each member of the foursome was presented a certificate from the Crow’s Nest Driving Range for the players to work on their games. “That’s something where they have a little fun, which is all part of the tournament,” said LGC pro Phil Small. “They enjoy it.”
