Softball trio stays alive

Dramatic wins keep playoff hopes afloat

A trio of county prep softball teams prevailed in dramatic elimination game wins Monday afternoon.

Lancaster rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down Greenwood in the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs.

Buford topped Chesnee 5-2 in the Class AA Upper State playoffs and Andrew Jackson edged Saluda, 1-0 in the Class AA Upstate playoffs.

Lady Bruins win

The LHS Lady Bruins, down 2-0 in the sixth, ignited for three runs, to post a 3-2 road win over Greenwood and advance to the Class AAAA District I championship round.

The Lady Bruins loaded the bases with a walk to Pagan Glenn and back-to-back singles from Claire Brown and T’Aria Ingram.

Glenn scored on a passed ball before Katy Ghent drilled a double to right center field to score Brown and Ingram for what proved to be the decisive runs.

“I was real proud of our girls and the way they battled,” Lancaster High coach Kim Perry said. “When we go to Boiling Springs today, I want us to give it all we have and leave it on the field.”

Lady Bruins’ right-hander Erin Walker worked seven innings and hurled a four-hitter with four strikeouts. She walked one and hit a batter.

Ghent led the LHS offense with two hits and drove in two runs. Anna Grier also generated two hits. Brown had a hit, sacrifice and scored a run. Ingram supplied a hit and scored a run. Walker had a hit and drew a walk. Glenn tallied a run, walked and had a sacrifice.

Lancaster, 12-8, visits Boiling Springs today at 5:30 p.m. to play for the district title and a berth in the Class AAAA Upper State title series. The Lady Bruins will need to defeat the Lady Bulldogs twice to advance.

Knight’s blast lifts BHS

BHS’s Hannah Knight belted a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the 19-7 Lady Jackets to the 5-2 win over the Chesnee Lady Eagles on Monday. 

Carley Bailey, who was the winner, went seven innings and allowed six hits, two runs – both earned and no walks. She fanned two.

Kendall Boone led the Lady Jackets with two hits and drove in two runs.

Bailey had a double and tallied a run. Mikayla Hannah had a hit and scored a run. Kayla Lloyd had a hit and

Daphne Honeycutt scored a run.

Buford travels to Broome today, needing two wins over the Lady Centurions in the District II tournament to advance to the Class AA Upper State title series.

u Broome defeated Buford 8-3 in a winner’s bracket game Saturday afternoon.

Carley Bailey, in five innings, yielded nine hits, five runs – all earned and two walks. She fanned six. Ashley Lloyd hurled an inning and allowed a hit, three runs – one earned run and a walk. She whiffed one.

Kendall Boone led the BHS offense with three hits, a RBI and scored a run.

Ashley Lloyd had two hits and drove in a run. Erica Blackmon and Bailey each had a hit.

Hannah Knight scored a run and had a stolen base. Kayla Lloyd drove in a run and Tiera Stewart scored a run.

Lady Volunteers win

Andrew Jackson kept alive its Class AA Upper State postseason softball hopes with an exciting 1-0 win over Saluda at AJ on Monday afternoon in the Class AA District I tournament.

Summer Truesdale’s RBI-hit in the seventh inning lifted AJ to the 1-0 victory. Chelsea Holden and Hannah Cobb each had three hits to pace AJ, which improved to 15-13.

Ashley Williams added a hit.

Lauren Rowell, in seven innings, was the winner to even her record at 6-6 with a four-hitter and one walk. She fanned three.

The Lady Vols travel to Crescent of Iva today, needing two wins over CHS to advance.

u Crescent edged AJ, 8-7 on Saturday.

Chelsea Holden drilled three doubles. Kori Ballard had two hits and drove in three runs. Ashley Williams and Jamee Blackmon each supplied two hits.

Summer Truesdale and Hannah Cobb each had a hit and drove in a run for the Lady Vols.

Abby Faulkenberry added a hit.

IL girls eliminated

Liberty ended Indian Land’s postseason softball hopes with a 12-10 win over the Lady Warriors on Friday. Beth Martin, 1-2, took the loss.

Alex Greenawalt had two doubles, a single and drove in two runs. Katie Jowers drilled three singles and had a RBI.

Martin had two singles and a pair of RBIs. Elizabeth Myers had two singles and a RBI.

Haley Vachon singled and drove in a run. Brittany Crabdree had a hit and Kelsi Funk had two sacrifices.

IL finished the season with an 8-12 record.
