AJ Vols lead teams with 17-1 mark

County soccer teams launch their state title hopes this week as postseason play opens in all classes. The girls begin playoff action Monday, with the boys’ teams slated to open play Tuesday. Andrew Jackson and Indian Land will have girls’ teams involved in the Class AA playoffs. The IL girls host Greenville Tech in the opening round Monday at 6 p.m. The Lady Warriors are seeded seventh in the Class AA Upper State playoffs, while Greenville Tech is seeded 10th. The winner advances to face second-seeded Christ Church of Greenville, which received an opening-round bye, Wednesday. The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers are the eighth-seeded team in the Class AA Lower State bracket. The Lady Vols host Andrews on Monday. The winner advances to meet top-seeded Waccamaw, the No. 1 seed in the Class AA Lower State bracket. The Indian Land Lady Warriors defeated the Lancaster Lady Bruins for the second time this season, taking a 3-1 win over LHS at Memorial Stadium on Thursday. IL senior captain Elizabeth Rowe scored the first Lady Warriors’ goal 10 minutes into the match. The goal was assisted by Andrea Lavieri. The Lady Warriors put in their second goal with 20 minutes remaining in the first half. Lavieri scored the game winner assisted by Rowe. The same players connected in the second half for the final goal of the match. Lavieri scored on a Rowe corner kick 10 minutes into the second half. IL keeper Brittani Kronquist had 19 saves in net and kept the Lady Bruins at bay. Kariline Berei and Brook Adams had solid outings on the defensive front for Indian Land. The Lady Warriors capped the season with a 9-5 mark, beating county foes Lancaster and Andrew Jackson twice this season. u Lancaster County has three boys teams in the playoffs, led by the Andrew Jackson Volunteers. The Vols, who lost only one match in regular-season play, host Loris on Tuesday at 6 p.m. AJ’s loss came to Class AAA Wilson of Florence. The Vols are seeded fourth, while Loris is the 13th seed. Buford, 6-7-1, travels to Barnwell for its opening-round match. The AJ vs. Loris winner moves on to face the Buford-Barnwell victor. Buford is seeded 12th, while Barnwell is seeded fifth. The 17-1 Vols of coach Randy Jordan and assistant coach Mark Bridges have produced a solid season which opened with AJ capturing the inaugural Rose City Soccer Classic at Lancaster Memorial Stadium.  Indian Land, fresh off topping Lewisville 4-1 to capture the regular-season Conference III-A title at Memorial Stadium last week, faces Lewisville for a fourth time in the opening round of the Class A Upper State soccer playoffs. The two teams split in regular-season play, forcing the tie-breaker match. The Indian Land-Lewisville winner faces the Christ Church-Landrum victor on Wednesday.
