Three Lancaster County Parks and Recreation youth all-star soccer teams will travel to Sumter on Saturday to compete in the South Carolina Athletic Programs state championship tournament.
The 10 under stars and 12 under stars each captured Central District championships at the Melvin Steele Soccer Complex on Nov. 19.
The Lancaster U10 stars blanked Fort Mill 9-0 and the Lancaster County U12 stars downed Fort Mill 6-0.
The Lancaster County 15-under all-stars earned an automatic bid to the state tournament in Sumter since Lancaster County is the lone entry from the Central District.
Lancaster County U15 stars will face Marion on field two at Patriot Park at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
The winner of the Lancaster-Marion game plays for the SCAP U15 state championship at 2:30 p.m. on field two. The loser will play in the third-place match at 2:30 on field three.
The Lancaster County U10 stars open tournament play at 11 a.m. when they face Walhalla of the Western District on field one at Patriot Park.
The winner of the Lancaster-Walhalla match moves on to the U10 state championship match at 1:30 p.m. on field one at Patriot Park.
The loser of the Lancaster-Walhalla match will play at 12:15 in the consolation round on field one. The winner from the 12:15 p.m. consolation match then plays at 3 on field one to decide the third-place finisher in the state field.
The loser in the 12:15 p.m. match is eliminated from state tournament play.
The Lancaster U10 stars captured the Central District title with a 9-0 win over Fort Mill.
Lancaster County U10 coach Joel Patterson saluted the determined defense of Tyler Deese, James George, Hanna Fitch, William Ingram and Garrett Watts.
The U10 stars’ passing attack was led by Nicholas Mangano, Bryton Davis, Austin Catoe and Alex Quevedo.
The Lancaster U12 all-stars blanked Fort Mill 6-0 to win the Central District title
The Lancaster U12 all-stars are led by coach Andre Merritt who guided Murdock Orthodontics to a 12-0 season in which it didn’t allow a goal for the season.
The U-12 stars open state play facing host Sumter at 10 a.m. on field two at Patriot Park.
The winner of the Lancaster-Sumter match plays for the state championship at 1:15 p.m. on field two.
The loser of the Lancaster-Sumter match plays at 1:15 p.m. in the third-place match on field three at Patriot Park.
Lancaster area youth soccer fans attending the state championship matches in Sumter will have a 70-mile drive.
Patriot Park is located at 380 General Drive in Sumter.
Admission to the matches is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.
North stars win
The Lancaster County North pee wee all-stars, ages 7-8, captured the best-of-three county championship tournament with a sweep of the South all-stars on Nov. 19-20.
The North pee wee stars took a 2-0 win in the tournament opener Nov. 19 and then wrapped up the crown with a 2-1 win Nov. 20 at the Melvin Steele Complex.
In the opening match, the North took a 2-0 win over the South stars.
North soccer siblings Kevin Monsalvo and Kaylie Monsalvo each scored a goal to pace the 2-0 win. Trey Crenshaw paced the defense, posting the shutout at the net.
Middle defender Tyler Trimnal sparked the defense with key play.
The North stars clinched the crown with a 2-1 win over the South stars.
Ashton Phillips scored the North’s first goal for a 1-1 tie at the half.
In the second half, Kevin Monsalvo scored the winning goal in the 2-1 win.
Tyler Flowers, at the net, posted a second-half shutout to aid the North stars’ win.
The North coaching staff included Will Brice, Brian Trimnal, David Vaughn and Brown Crenshaw.
