Six junior golfers repeated as winners in their respective age group during the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association’s second tournament at White Plains Golf Club in Pageland on Monday, June 17.
The repeat winners included Logan Sowell, Brady Hinkle, Samantha Melton, Emily Cox, Haley Thurmond and David Oliver.
Sowell, the Andrew Jackson High School golf standout, won the boys 15-18 age group with an even par 72. He was followed by Josh Payseur’s 78 and Jeremy Etters’ 81. Sowell leads the age division points with 50. Chandler Norville is second with 33 and Etters is third overall with 29.
Brady Hinkle carded a 74 to take the boys 13-14 age division for the second straight week. Michael Williams had an 83 and John Erby netted an 84. Hinkle heads the points with 50 and Williams follows with 40. Erby is third with 29.
Samantha Melton prevailed in the girls 14-18 age division with an 80. Carly Funderburk finished with a 94 and Ashlynn Mullis shot a 98. Melton has 50 points to lead the age division. Mullis follows with 36 and Funderburk has 20.
Emily Cox captured the girls 11-13 age division for the second straight week, shooting a 38. The week prior in the LJGA opener at the Lancaster Golf Club, Cox tied Baylee Evans for the win.
Evans was a close second with a 39 at White Plains on Monday. Tikyevah Mackey placed third with a 63.
Cox, with two wins, leads the points with 50, while Evans is a close second with 45. Mackey has 36 for third place.
Haley Thurmond won the girls 8-10 age division with a 31 to give her a second straight victory.
Mary Martin Loebeck and McKensie Sutton each shot a 38 to tie for second. Thurmond leads the division with 50 points. Loebeck has 40 points and Sutton is third with 20.
In the boys 6-7 age group, David Oliver won again, carding a 20 over five holes. Brooks Horton followed with a 28 and Zachery Mothershed finished with a 29,
Oliver leads the points with 50. Horton and Mothershed each have 36. Marshall Deese is third with 26.
In the boys 8-9 age division, Toby Willis took the win with a 24. Luke B was a close second with a 26 and Parker Deese followed with a 32. Owen Phillips leads the points with 38, with Deese second at 32 and Kaden Plyler third with 30.
LJGA veteran Anthony Sutton shot a 33 to take the boys 10-12 win. Mason Sowell followed with a 37 and Trey Crenshaw carded a 42.
Crenshaw leads the overall points with 41, with Sutton second at 40 and Caleb Henson third with 33.
The juniors will play the Edgewater Golf Club on Monday, June 24.
