Six juniors notch 4th wins at Kershaw

Six junior golfers registered their fourth wins of the season to highlight action in the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association tournament at the Kershaw Golf Club on Monday, July 15.

The four-time winners included David Oliver, Anthony “T” Sutton, Haley Thurmond, Emily Cox, Brady Hinkle and Logan Sowell.

Sutton, in the boys 10-12 age group, posted his fourth straight win with a 35 in a close win.

Mason Sowell and Trey Crenshaw tied for second with each posting a 37.

Caleb Henson was third with a 43.

Sutton led the overall points with a 100. Sowell is second with 80 and Crenshaw is third with 77 after the Kershaw tournament.

In the boys 6-7 age group, David Oliver shot a 17 to top the field over five holes.

Ayden Anderson was second with a 27 and Grant Phillips was third with a 28.

Oliver topped the points with 100 and four wins following the Kershaw outing. Marshall Deese was second with 71 and Zachery Mothershed  third in the points with 69.

In the 13-14 boys, Brady Hinkle carded a 73 over 18 holes for the win.

Michael Williams followed with an 80. Joshua Hinson and Lewis Lambert tied for third with an 85 apiece.

In the points, Hinkle was on top with 100, with Williams second with 80 points. Hinson  was third with 65.

In the boys 15-18 age group, Andrew Jackson High School star golfer Logan Sowell fired a 68 to take the win.

Josh Payseur finished second with a 76 and John Ware was third with an 80.

Sowell is atop the boys 15-18 points with 100. Payseur is second with 81 points and Jeremy Etters, with 74 points, is third.

Thurmond, in the girls 8-10 age group, prevailed with a 33. McKensie Sutton shot a 36 to take second. Mary Martin Lobeck finished third with a 39.

In the points, Thurmond led with 100 points after Kershaw, with Sutton second with 80 points. Lobeck had 72 points in third place.

In the girls 11-13 age group, Cox shot a 38 for the win, with Baylee Evans second with a 41. Cox held the points lead with 100, followed by Evans’ 85 and Tikyevah Mackey in third with 84 points.

In the boys 8-9 age division, Toby Willis was the victor with a 25.

Luke Benfield placed second with a 28 and Owen Phillips shot a 31 for third place.

Willis, who has three wins, topped the boys 8-9 points with 91 after Kershaw.

Kaden Plyler was second with 74 and Benfield third with 73 points.

The girls 14-18 age group winner was Ashlynn Mullis with an 84.

Samantha Melton was a close second with an 85.Melton, who has three wins on the seasons, leads the points with 95.

Mullis and Carly Funderburk were tied for second in the girls 14-18 points with 65 apiece after Kershaw.

The Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association capped regular-season play with the annual Roy Small Junior Championship at the Lancaster Golf July on Monday and Tuesday, July 22-23. See the Sunday, July 28 paper for a full report on the tourney.
