Severe thunderstorm warning issued for northern portion of county

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the northern portion of Lancaster County until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the entire county until 1 a.m. Friday, June 14.

At 5:57 p.m., National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located over York County about 6 miles northeast of York and moving east/southeast toward Lancaster at an estimated 40 mph. Residents are urged to report large hail, damaging winds or flooding to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 283-4136.
