The dreams of a white Christmas were fulfilled for many South Carolinians this year, with snow beginning on Christmas Day in the upstate and moving throughout most of the state on Dec. 26.
For S.C. Department of Transportation maintenance employees, a white Christmas means a working Christmas.
Maintenance crews in 44 of the 46 counties worked over the holiday weekend, plowing snow from the roadways or placing anti-icing chemicals on roads and bridges in an effort to prevent ice from developing.
